Your Windows,
Automated.
Close every shade in the house at sunset without leaving the couch. Schedule your windows to open with the sunrise. Control every room from your phone — or just ask Alexa. Motorized window treatments from Minneapolis Window Shade Company, installed by a Hunter Douglas Master Installer.
Why Motorized Window Treatments Are Worth It
The first time you close every shade in the house from your phone without getting up, you'll understand. The second time you notice your heating bill, you'll be glad you did.
Real Convenience
Hard-to-reach windows over the kitchen sink. Skylights. Tall living room windows. Motorization eliminates the awkward step stools and tangled cords permanently.
Energy Savings, Automated
Schedule your cellular shades to close every evening without thinking about it. Hunter Douglas cellular shades reduce heat loss by up to 40% — motorization ensures they actually do it.
UV & Furniture Protection
Automatic solar shade scheduling keeps harmful UV light off your floors, furniture, and artwork during peak sun hours — even when you're not home.
Privacy & Security
Schedule your shades to simulate occupancy while traveling. Close everything at dusk from anywhere in the world with one tap.
Accessibility
For anyone with limited mobility, motorized treatments aren't a luxury — they're a practical necessity. No cords, no physical effort, full control.
Home Value
Motorized Hunter Douglas window treatments are a meaningful upgrade that adds to your home's appeal and appraised value — unlike many smart home gadgets that come and go.

A Day With Motorized Window Treatments
The best way to understand motorization is to imagine your home with it.
The Gentle Wake
Your bedroom shades open to 20% — just enough light to ease you awake without a blast of morning sun. Your alarm and your shades are in sync.
That Kitchen Window
The one over the sink that you've always needed a step stool to reach. It opens on its own schedule now. You haven't touched it in weeks.
Anti-Glare, Auto-Managed
Solar shades in your home office close automatically when the sun hits your monitor. No squinting. No interrupting your work to deal with the blinds.
"Alexa, Movie Time"
Three words. Every shade in the living room closes to blackout. The room is dark. The movie starts. You never left the couch.
The Whole House at Once
Every treatment closes automatically at sunset. Your neighbors don't see in. Your heating system doesn't have to work as hard overnight. It just happens.
Away Mode
Your shades move on a random schedule while you travel — making the house look occupied. Close everything from the airport if you forgot on the way out.
Motorization Done Right Takes Someone Who Has Done It Hundreds of Times
PowerView is the most sophisticated window treatment system on the market. The technology is intuitive once it's set up correctly — but the setup matters. Programming scenes, configuring schedules, integrating with your smart home, and ensuring every treatment operates at the right speed and stopping point requires hands-on expertise.
Owner Mark Trump is a Hunter Douglas Master Installer with over 20 years of experience — including extensive work with PowerView. When we install motorized treatments, we don't leave until every scene is programmed and you know exactly how to use the app.

Motorized Window Treatment Questions, Honestly Answered
How much do motorized window treatments cost?
Motorized treatments cost more than manual treatments — the PowerView motor system adds to the base cost of each treatment. The range varies significantly based on the product type, fabric, and window size. Motorized roller shades on a standard-size window will cost less than motorized Silhouette shades on a large picture window. The best way to get an accurate number is a free in-home consultation where we can measure and spec each window. We'll give you a fair, transparent quote — no manufactured discounts, no surprises.
Do motorized blinds need to be hardwired?
Most PowerView motorized treatments run on rechargeable lithium-ion wand batteries that typically last 1–2 years between charges. No hardwiring required for the vast majority of installations. For windows where recharging is inconvenient (high skylights, large banks of windows), we can discuss hardwired power options. We'll recommend the right power solution for each window during the consultation.
What smart home systems does Hunter Douglas PowerView work with?
PowerView Gen 3 integrates natively with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings — no additional hub required for any of them. It also works with IFTTT for custom automation workflows. If you already use one of these platforms, PowerView connects quickly. If you're new to smart home devices, the PowerView app is fully capable as a standalone system.
Can I motorize my existing Hunter Douglas window treatments?
In some cases, yes — depending on the product model and age. Some Hunter Douglas treatments can be retrofitted with PowerView motors. Others require a new purchase. Call us at (612) 922-4100 and tell us what you have. We'll let you know honestly whether a retrofit is possible and cost-effective, or whether new treatments make more sense.
What happens if the power goes out or the battery dies?
Battery-powered treatments can be manually operated — they don't lock in place if the battery dies. The PowerView system also sends low-battery notifications through the app well before the battery is depleted, so you'll have plenty of time to recharge. For hardwired treatments, a power outage will prevent motorized operation, but manual override is still available.
Do you install motorized blinds for skylights and hard-to-reach windows?
Yes — this is actually one of the most practical applications of motorized window treatments. Skylights, high vaulted windows, windows over kitchen sinks, and other hard-to-reach windows are ideal candidates for motorization. We measure and install treatments in these locations regularly. If it's a window you can't comfortably reach, motorization is the right solution.
