Before You Replace — Let Us Take a Look
Most companies have no incentive to fix what you already own. We're different. We've been repairing window blinds, shades, and shutters in Minneapolis since before most of our competitors existed — and we'd rather save you money than sell you something new.
"The most sustainable window treatment is the one you already have. If it can be fixed, we'll tell you honestly — and fix it right."
Our honest policy: If repair doesn't make financial sense for your situation, we'll tell you that too. No pressure, no upsell.
Common Window Treatment Problems We Repair
If something's wrong with your blinds, shades, or shutters, there's a good chance we've seen it — and fixed it — before. Here's what we handle most often.
Broken Lift Cords
The most common repair we do. Fraying, snapping, or tangled cords on roller shades, cellular shades, and venetian blinds. We re-string with correct-weight cord so it holds.
Tilting & Rotation Failures
Wood blinds and faux wood blinds where the slats won't tilt. Usually a wand, tilt rod, or headrail gear issue — parts we stock for Hunter Douglas and common brands.
Headrail & Mounting Issues
Headrails that have warped, brackets that have pulled from walls, or mechanisms that won't lock. We assess whether replacement parts or a new headrail is the right call.
Motorization Troubleshooting
Hunter Douglas PowerView shades that won't respond, lose programming, or have battery/motor issues. Owner Mark personally handles motorized repairs — the complexity demands it.
Cellular & Honeycomb Shade Repairs
Cells that have collapsed, bottom rails that have detached, or fabric that has torn at the seams. We source Hunter Douglas cellular components directly from the manufacturer.
Roman Shade & Woven Wood Repairs
Rings that have detached from fabric, cords that have slipped their track, or hems that have come undone. Labor-intensive repairs we do carefully — or honestly advise against if cost doesn't pencil out.
Hunter Douglas Repairs Done by an Authorized Dealer
Anyone can take apart a blind. Getting it back together correctly — with the right parts — is another matter. As an authorized Hunter Douglas dealer, we have access to genuine HD components that aren't available to independent repair shops or homeowners.
Generic replacement parts look similar but wear differently. A cord that's slightly too thin, a spring with different tension, a bracket made of softer plastic — any of these will fail again sooner than the original. We don't use substitutes.
The Repair Process — No Surprises
We keep it straightforward. You'll know what's wrong, what it costs, and what to expect before we do anything.
When to Repair — and When to Replace
We'll always be honest about this. Here's a general guide to how we think about repair vs. replacement.
| Situation | โ Usually Repair | → Consider Replacing |
|---|---|---|
| Treatment age | Under 10–15 years, good quality | 20+ years, repeated failures |
| Type of failure | Cord, bracket, tilt mechanism — mechanical | Fabric has torn, faded, or yellowed throughout |
| Product quality | Hunter Douglas, Alta, quality mid-grade | Budget box-store blinds — not worth the repair cost |
| Repair cost vs. new | Repair is 30–60% of replacement cost | Repair approaches or exceeds replacement cost |
| Motorized systems | Motor, battery, or programming issue — highly repairable | Motor failure in a very old system without parts availability |
| Cellular / honeycomb shades | Cord or bottom rail issues | Cells are collapsed or permanently deformed throughout |

Minneapolis Homeowners on Our Repair Service
Repair customers often become our most loyal — because they saw what honesty looks like in this industry.
"I called expecting to be told I needed new blinds. Instead they told me it was a $40 cord replacement. They could have sold me $800 worth of new shades. I'll never go anywhere else."
"The motorized Hunter Douglas shades in our master bedroom stopped responding. Mark came out, diagnosed a battery module issue, had the part ordered and installed within the week. That's expertise you can't get at a big-box store."
"Brought in three sets of cellular shades that had broken lift cords. They repaired all three for less than the cost of one new shade. Professional, fast, and honest from start to finish."
Repair Questions, Honestly Answered
Do I need to bring my blinds in, or can you come to my home?
It depends on what needs fixing. Most blind and shade repairs can be handled at our showroom — you remove the treatment and bring it to us at 3550 Dakota Ave S, St. Louis Park. For heavier installations (shutters, motorized systems, drapery hardware attached to the wall), we'll come to you. Call us at (612) 922-4100 and we'll figure out the right approach for your situation.
How much does blind repair cost in Minneapolis?
Repair costs vary significantly based on what's broken, what brand and type of treatment it is, and what parts are needed. Simple cord replacements tend to be quite affordable. Motorization repairs or headrail replacements cost more. We'll give you a clear quote before we do any work — and we'll tell you honestly if the repair cost doesn't make sense given the age or quality of the treatment.
Can you repair blinds that weren't bought from you?
In many cases, yes. We're strongest on Hunter Douglas repairs because we have direct access to manufacturer parts, but we assess most major brands — Levolor, Bali, Alta, Insolroll, and others. The honest caveat is that for lower-end brands, the repair cost sometimes exceeds what it would cost to just replace with a quality product. We'll tell you which situation you're in.
How long does a repair typically take?
Simple repairs using in-stock parts — cord replacements, basic mechanism fixes — can often be done same day or within a few days. Repairs requiring special orders from Hunter Douglas or other manufacturers take longer, typically 1–2 weeks depending on part availability. We'll give you a realistic timeline when you bring your treatment in.
Can you repair Hunter Douglas PowerView motorized shades?
Yes — and this is an area where our Hunter Douglas authorization matters most. Motorized shade issues often come down to battery module failure, programming loss, motor issues, or compatibility with a home automation system. Owner Mark handles motorized repairs personally given their complexity. As an authorized dealer, we can access HD diagnostics tools and genuine motor components that independent repair shops can't.
Is repair work warranted?
Yes. We stand behind our repair work. If a repair fails under normal use, contact us — we'll make it right. The specific warranty terms depend on the nature of the repair and parts used, which we'll explain when we give you the quote.
Sometimes the Right Answer Is Something New
